#GivingTuesday, November 27, is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in countries around the world. Millions of people have come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.
Last year, we raised over $6,000 which was used to purchase six new “talkers” for our iPad Loaner Program, assisting non-verbal children at Emerge with special tools to help them continue speech development.
#GivingTuesday falls on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year for #GivingTuesday, we want to go on a shopping spree to stock our Outdoor Play Therapy closet!
Outdoor play has a critical role in the early development of children. Children with developmental delays including autism face a range of challenges, from sensory sensitivities to delayed motor skills. When playing outside, children can play together regardless of their challenges, which can in turn help boost their self-confidence.
Without even realizing it, children at Emerge are receiving therapy while they play!
Outdoor equipment also gives children the opportunity to play together and learn new words. They can get used to taking turns and interact with friends during a game. Trying out new sports gives our children and their families the courage to participate in sports activities in the community.
We will use all #GivingTuesday funds to purchase equipment for outdoor play therapy. With the appropriate items, we are able to help the children at Emerge improve their:
- fine motor skills
- gross motor skills
- hand-eye coordination
- spatial skills
- social skills
Our wishlist includes items like trikes, trampolines, balls and bats, hoola hoops, and more.
Our goal is to raise a total of $4,000 to go towards the purchase of outdoor equipment for use during play therapy. Funds raised for #GivingTuesday will be matched up to $5,000 by The Rite Aid Foundation’s KidCents program!
