In 2012, #GivingTuesday began as one simple idea to encourage people to do good in their community. Today, GivingTuesday is a global movement practiced around the world. On this day of giving, individuals rally together to support the organizations they believe in by donating to support their mission.
Last year, we raised $6,310 and were able to purchase a ton of new equipment for our outdoor play therapy closet! You can read more about that here!
This year, donations to Emerge on GivingTuesday will be used to purchase therapeutic classroom tools, supplies, and books for use at The Emerge Center and The Emerge School.
Puzzles, toy cars, and small kitchen sets. You are probably used to seeing things like these in homes or classrooms to keep children busy during free play time. At Emerge, everything our therapists touch is used as a learning opportunity! Items like these are used in our classrooms every single day during speech, occupational, and ABA therapy.
That is the amazing thing about what we do! Every interaction our team has with a child is a therapeutic opportunity – a chance to get through to a child who is struggling with certain words or interactions by utilizing a new item that might spark their interest and create a breakthrough.
In addition to these items, we have a long wish list of books we’d like to purchase! These books were carefully selected with a purpose to ensure growth and stability to all who we call “family” – our kiddos at the center, the school, and their parents.
Providing books for our therapists allows them another tool to further their work with each child, while providing for our parents gives them new ways to understand everything their child is going through and how they can be involved as their child emerges.
Our department leaders also have a wish list of items that can enhance our classrooms! Things like Zumo rockers, bean bags, and indirect lighting to address various sensory needs of the children we serve.
Our goal is to raise a total of $5,000 to go towards the purchase of these classroom tools and books. We hope you consider giving back on this global day of giving!
